Using lavender for sleep is a tried and tested method. Lavender has been well-documented as a natural aid for sleep and many of our customers swear by products such as sleep sprays or lavender essential oil on their pillows.
But you can’t rely on lavender alone. It’s important to have a sleep ritual that helps you to unwind so that you feel ready for bed and able to sleep easily.
This is one of the reasons we launched a Sleep Rituals Gift Set, which include a choice of lavender or rose pillow spray, a Welsh blanket lavender heart, and our Luxury Lavender and Neroli Hand Cream, but also a set of instructions to help you get in the right frame of mind for sleeping.
Our top tips for a good night’s sleep go something like this:
· Put your device away – its light and content can be too stimulating. Choose a good old-fashioned book instead, or put your Kindle on night mode.
· Make sure the light is low and take the time to sit on the edge of the bed, close your eyes and steady yourself with a few deep breaths. Breathing deeply helps to calm your mind.
· Apply a balm or lotion containing lavender to your hands, neck or face.. Our lavender and neroli hand cream contains lavender essential oil and gives you an extra dose of relaxing scent while also treating your hands.
· Use an aromatherapy sleep spray (we make sprays which contain both lavender hydrosol and lavender essential oil, but there are many great sprays, so find the one that works for you). Mist your pillow area. The scent of rose or lavender is deeply relaxing and helps you feel ready for bed, and inhaling the chemicals in lavender that mimic the brain’s natural chemistry when it is ready for sleep will help you relax.
· Finally tuck a lavender sachet (such as our lavender heart) under your pillow and enjoy sweet dreams!
